Lynton IPL

Intense Pulsed Light TherapyIPL (Intense Pulsed Light Therapy)

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy, commonly known as IPL, is an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment designed to improve the overall clarity, tone, and appearance of the skin. Using controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light, IPL targets unwanted pigmentation, redness, visible blood vessels, and signs of sun damage without harming the surrounding skin.

The light energy is absorbed by pigment and blood vessels within the skin, helping the body naturally break them down over time while also stimulating collagen production for a brighter, smoother, more even complexion.

IPL is a non-invasive treatment with minimal downtime, making it a popular option for clients wanting visible skin improvement without lengthy recovery periods.

Why do we use Lynton IPL?

lynton intense pulsed light therapy in actionWe use the Lynton IPL system because it is one of the most advanced and trusted medical-grade IPL technologies available in the UK. Designed and manufactured in Britain, Lynton devices are widely used by leading aesthetic clinics, hospitals, and even the NHS due to their exceptional safety profile, reliability, and results.

What makes Lynton different is the power, precision, and customisation of the technology. The system delivers carefully controlled pulses of light energy deep into the skin, allowing us to effectively target concerns such as redness, pigmentation, sun damage, visible vessels, acne bacteria, and overall skin rejuvenation — whilst protecting the surrounding skin.

Unlike lower-powered IPL devices often found in beauty settings, Lynton IPL is true medical-grade technology. This means treatments are more precise, more effective, and capable of delivering noticeable long-term skin improvement.

The advanced cooling and intelligent pulse technology also make treatments safer and more comfortable for clients. Every treatment can be tailored to the individual skin type, concern, and treatment area, helping us achieve consistent, high-quality results whilst maintaining skin integrity.

Another reason we chose Lynton is the clinical research and training behind the brand. Lynton is recognised for its evidence-based approach to aesthetic technology and is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of aesthetic devices. Their systems are trusted by medical professionals nationwide because they deliver powerful results while maintaining high safety standards.

What can IPL treat?

IPL is commonly used to improve:

  • Redness and rosacea
  • Acne
  • Sun damage
  • Pigmentation and age spots
  • Broken capillaries and thread veins
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Freckles
  • Skin dullness
  • General skin rejuvenation

The treatment targets either melanin (pigment) or haemoglobin (redness and vessels), depending on the skin concern being treated.

FAQs

IPL delivers carefully controlled flashes of light into the skin at multiple wavelengths. Unlike traditional laser treatments that use a single wavelength, IPL can target multiple skin concerns in a single treatment session.

As the light is absorbed:

  • Pigmented lesions darken and gradually fade
  • Redness and visible vessels reduce
  • Skin tone appears brighter and more even
  • Collagen production is stimulated for healthier-looking skin

Over the course of treatments, the skin becomes clearer, calmer, and more radiant.

Most clients describe IPL as a quick, warm, flicking sensation against the skin. The treatment is generally very well tolerated, and sessions are usually relatively quick, depending on the area being treated.

IPL involves very little downtime. Some clients may experience mild redness or warmth immediately after treatment, which usually settles within a few hours. Pigmented areas may temporarily darken before naturally flaking away over the following days.

Most people can return to normal daily activities straight after treatment.

A course of treatments is usually recommended for the best results. Most clients benefit from approximately 3–6 sessions, depending on the concern being treated, skin condition, and desired outcome. Maintenance treatments may also be advised to help maintain long-term results.

IPL is not suitable for all skin tones and conditions. We currently treat Fitzpatrick scores 1-3 with IPL. A full consultation and skin assessment is essential before treatment to determine suitability and create a personalised treatment plan. Certain medical conditions, medications, recent sun exposure, or active skin conditions may prevent treatment from being carried out safely.

What is the IllumiFacial?

The Lynton IllumiFacial is a multi-step advanced skin rejuvenation treatment designed to deeply cleanse, brighten, hydrate, and improve overall skin quality using medical-grade IPL technology. Each stage of the treatment works together to leave the skin clearer, fresher, and more radiant.

First, the skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove makeup, oil, and impurities. This ensures the skin is fully prepared and allows the technology and active ingredients to work effectively.

IlluminfacialThe treatment then begins with a gentle medical-grade Tri Fruit Acid peel. This exfoliates dead skin cells from the surface, helps unclog pores, smooths texture, and enhances the penetration of the following stages. The peel also helps brighten dull skin and improve uneven tone.

Next comes the IPL stage using the Lynton Dynamix system. A layer of cooling ultrasound gel is applied before controlled pulses of Intense Pulsed Light are delivered into the skin. The light energy targets pigmentation, redness, broken capillaries, sun damage, and uneven skin tone while also stimulating collagen production within the deeper layers of the skin. Patients often describe the sensation as a quick warm flick against the skin.

After the IPL treatment, the skin is infused with a hydrating and soothing serum containing active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and antioxidants. This helps calm the skin, restore hydration, and enhance the post-treatment glow.

LED light therapy is then often used to further reduce inflammation, accelerate healing, and support collagen stimulation. This stage helps soothe the skin and maximise results.

Finally, medical-grade SPF is applied to protect the skin, as freshly treated skin is more sensitive to UV exposure. Patients are advised to avoid excessive sun exposure, heat treatments, and active skincare products for a short period after treatment.

The overall result is brighter, clearer, smoother, and more radiant skin with improvements continuing over the following weeks as collagen production increases. A course of treatments is usually recommended for the best long-term results.
